ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To present the intervention strategies used to combat childhood obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The current work was carried out through a narrative literature review, with electronic search of complete scientific articles, written in Portuguese and English. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Childhood obesity is a chronic disease, characterized by excess body fat in children up to 12 years of age, resulting from a complex series of genetic, individual, behavioral and environmental factors that act in multiple contexts. In the analysis of the 38 articles, some intervention strategies were identified, related to the practice of physical exercises, food education, sleep control, psychological treatment, emphasis on breastfeeding in the appropriate period and the function of the intestinal microbiota, which are used in the combat childhood obesity. CONCLUSION: The treatment of childhood obesity consists of multiple intervention strategies, which depend on a multidisciplinary team, patient awareness, guardians and the community in general.
