ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To describe nursing care on palliative care for cancer patients. METHODS: Descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, carried out with 20 nurses from a philanthropic hospital, and a reference in cancer treatment, in Teresina-Piauí, Brazil. Data collection was performed through semi-structured interviews, and data were analyzed according to content analysis. RESULTS: The testimonies gave rise to three categories: nurses' knowledge of palliative care; nursing intervention to promote palliative care; strategies to implement palliative care. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The study shows the importance of nursing care in palliative care, as well as allowing the nursing team to reflect on the care provided.
