ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To identify the difficulties experienced by colostomized children and the contributions of nursing and its care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach of the literature review type. The research was based on the analysis of books, articles and documents. To search for articles, the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) virtual library and the Medline database via PubMed were used, using the following descriptors: Nursing care, colostomy and child. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The impact on the life of the colostomized child and their families during the healing and rehabilitation process is not easily absorbed, especially when this condition is expressed in the body image, in which, starting to suffer actions of rejection by society, the patient and their families need to learn to deal with this condition. The nurse has a fundamental role in the care practice as well as the psychosocial care of their clients and families. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The opening of a colostomy in a child is a process that generates physical and psychosocial impacts, which is remarkable for her and her family, with nursing having the role of seeking to promote a relationship of trust with the child and family, strengthening this bond to ensure better assistance during this period of healing and rehabilitation.
