ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To reflect on men’s health promotion in Primary Care in light of Nola Pender’s theoretical model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a reflective study with a qualitative approach of the theoretical essay type. The analytical framework of Meleis’ Theory Evaluation Model was also adopted. RESULTS: Pender’s model proved suitable for understanding individual, cognitive, and environmental determinants that influence men’s health. From the perspective of the National Policy for Integral Attention to Men’s Health, the model highlights that previous experiences, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, and interpersonal influences directly affect service adherence. Primary Care shows weaknesses but can be strengthened by transforming barriers into facilitators, generating positive affect, and expanding support networks, thereby enhancing male engagement in health care. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Nola Pender’s model provides a robust theoretical framework to reinterpret policy and Primary Care challenges, guiding more effective and individual-centered strategies. By recognizing male-specific aspects and promoting shared responsibility, it becomes possible to foster sustainable changes in health behaviors, increase men’s engagement with services, and enhance the comprehensiveness of care.
