ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate, through the analysis of the scientific literature, strategies of fall prevention in hospitalized adult and elderly patients. METHOD: This was an integrative review of the literature. To select the guiding question, the PICo strategy was used, in whose acronym it was defined as: P (Population): " Inpatients" , I (Phenomenon of Interest): " Accident Prevention" , and Co (Context): " Accidents due to Falls" . Thus, the following research question was defined: " What are the strategies for preventing accidents due to falls in hospitalized adult and elderly patients?" , after cross-referencing the descriptors, a total of 629 articles were obtained, and after applying the inclusion criteria, 26 were selected for the final sample. The PRISMA flowchart was used to describe the selection stages. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: After the selection, the studies were classified into four categories, apprehending the various methods of preventing falls for hospitalized adult and elderly patients, ranging from education about risks and good practices to the implementation of devices and barriers to ensure greater patient safety. CONCLUSION: The review identified that the prevention of falls in hospitalized adults and elderly involves educational actions, staff training, environmental adaptations, and the use of technologies. It concludes that such strategies strengthen patient safety and reduce the incidence of falls.
