ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To analyze in the literature the outcomes of early mobilization used in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. METHODS: This is an integrative review of the literature, in scientific publications from 2017 to 2022. Data were collected from the following databases: SciELO, PubMed, and BVS, using the descriptors in English and Portuguese: early ambulation; intensive care units; critical care and physical therapy modalities. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Nine articles were used in this review, where the studies corroborated that early mobilization is a strategy used in the ICU, despite presenting some barriers to implementation, the multidisciplinary team recognizes the benefits that this strategy provides to critically ill patients. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: However, early rehabilitation and mobilization can help reduce the functional disabilities of patients with acquired weakness and, consequently, reduce the length of stay in the ICU, thus reducing mortality rates.
