ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the epidemiological profile of registered and examined contacts of people with a history of leprosy in Paraíba. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional epidemiological study, using secondary data, with the state of Paraíba as the locus. The database consisted of 2,468 new cases of leprosy reported in the period from 2016 to 2020 and collected at the Paraíba State Health Department/Executive Management of Health Surveillance/Center for Chronic and Neglected Diseases/Leprosy. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: It was found that of the 2,468 new cases of leprosy evaluated, 2,127 (86.2%) reported having one or more contacts, totaling 7,287 contacts of people with a history of leprosy registered, and of these, only 4,378 (60.1%) were examined, leaving approximately 40% of the individuals without undergoing the examination to support the adequate management of the cases, which could interfere in the maintenance of the leprosy transmission chain in Paraíba. Furthermore, 215 (8.7%) new cases had no registered contacts and 126 (5.1%) registered that they had no contacts. CONCLUSION: It is essential that leprosy control actions be implemented in Paraíba, with regard to the evaluation of contacts of people with a history of the disease, since they are the most susceptible to developing the disease.
