ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the main impacts caused by the diagnosis of autism in the marital relationship of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a narrative review of the literature through texts researched on the following platforms: Portal da CAPES, Lilacs, SciELO and MEDLINE using the descriptors: “autism” and “marital relationship”, from 2017 to 2021 Initially, 19 texts were found on the CAPES Portal, 18 being excluded; two in LILACS being both excluded, eight in MEDLINE being excluded seven and 10 in the SCIELO library being excluded seven, totaling nine articles. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: From an in-depth analysis of the content of the articles, three categories emerged that report on autism and the marital relationship and other recurring aspects: support network, couple' s routine and parental stress. In this way, the categories show the drastic changes in family dynamics and the strategies that parents need to develop to rethink new routines and management with the child. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is concluded from the research that the routine of parents of autistic children is considerably shaken due to the care that the child demands, consequently contributing to a negative relationship, affecting the parents' marital life.
