ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To identify in the current literature the main indirect effects of the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in children and adolescents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is an integrative literature review with a descriptive approach. We used the following databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The time frame was limited to the period from January to November 2020. Ten articles were included in this search. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Among the indirect impacts of the pandemic on children, the following stand out in the literature: damage to education, socialization, and development; extended family distance; stress; increased violence against children; decreased vaccination coverage, increased sedentary lifestyle, and obesity; increased use of media/screens; increased hunger and food risk; restricted movement of the population to non-essential services. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Therefore, the indirect findings of the health impacts of COVID-19 reveal that children are greatly affected at both physical and psychosocial levels. Thus, reducing these impacts is an action that must include health managers and professionals, as well as families.
