ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To describe the experience of psychology residents from the Integral Attention in Women' s and Children' s Health Program at the Universidade Federal do Pará, working in a Pediatric ICU with a child with a severe asthmatic crisis. METHODS: This study was carried out in a referral hospital in the northeast of Pará. The procedure used was the experience report, based on the methodology of Arch of Manguerez in its 5 stages as a path for the proposed discussion. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Hospitalization in a pediatric ICU is characterized by several psychological factors, both triggering and resulting from the disease, a discussion widely presented in the literature. The performance of psychology professionals in a multidisciplinary team should be guided by clear and coherent communication with patients, according to their stage of development, as well as with caregivers/guardians, considering them as active subjects. This work allowed us to observe health education as a decisive artifice for the promotion of autonomy in the health-disease process and in the attention shared between the levels of care as well as the users who travel through the network. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The importance of the psychologist' s work in this context is observed, mainly in the search to build a bridge of dialogue between the health team and the family/patient.
