ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To report the experience of Occupational Therapy interns in the hospital environment, through activities with low-cost materials that contribute to the humanization of care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type, which contemplates the importance of Occupational Therapy under the academic perspective in an oncology ward. The materials used are of low cost, such as painting canvas, paints, brushes, in addition to support structures made with PVC tubes and connections. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Bed visits promoted bonds and qualified listening. After evaluation, self-expression activities were proposed, aiming to minimize the suffering inherent to hospitalization. The use of low-cost resources provided opportunities for self-knowledge and strategies for coping with the disease. CONCLUSION: With the internship experience, it was possible to identify that the Occupational Therapy intervention, by using low-cost resources in self-expression activities, proved to be effective, easing the anxieties, pains and suffering. In addition, it allowed an academic reflection on the humanized look.
