RELEVÂNCIA DA IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DA ESTRATÉGIA SAÚDE DA FAMÍLIA NO BRASIL: UMA REVISÃO NARRATIVA

ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To carry out a narrative review of the literature on the guiding principles and implications of the Family Health Strategy for public health in Brazil, clarifying the extent to which the program has reduced inequalities in access to health care in the country. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a narrative review based on data collection through a literature review. The search was performed in LILACS and Medline databases, using the descriptors: Atenção Primária à Saúde / Primary Health Care / Atención Primaria de Salud, Estratégia Saúde da Família / Family Health Strategy / Estrategia de Salud de la Familia, Saúde Pública / Public Health / Salud Pública. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Among the findings in the literature regarding the implications of the Family Health Strategy for public health in Brazil, aspects regarding the increase in availability and access to health services stood out, influencing better health indicators, such as reduction from infant mortality, avoidable hospitalization, mortality from cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, greater equity, more access and continuity of care. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The positive implications of the program regarding community access to the health network resulted in a significant reduction of national inequalities regarding access to health.
