ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: Describe epidemiological records regarding hospitalizations and deaths from syphilis in Brazil. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive epidemiological study built using secondary data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), through the application of tabulations made on the internet (TABNET). Congenital, early, and other types of syphilis were included. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Between March 2011 and March 2021, hospitalizations for syphilis represented just over 145 thousand hospitalizations and approximately 460 death records. The present study revealed a significant number of hospitalizations and deaths due to syphilis in Brazil over the last ten years. The congenital type being the most expressive in both aspects mentioned above. CONCLUSION: There was a growing trend in hospitalizations and deaths from syphilis in Brazil. For the country to achieve attenuation or eradication of the infection, constant monitoring of the different types of syphilis is essential.
