ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the Brazilian scientific literature on preceptorship in Primary Health Care (PHC) within the context of the Brazilian Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde [SUS]). METHODS: A narrative review complemented by a bibliometric co-occurrence analysis of terms performed using VOSviewer software. The literature search was conducted in the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), CAPES Journal Portal, and Google Scholar databases, resulting in a corpus of 23 articles. RESULTS: The thematic structure revealed PHC as the central axis of the scientific literature, integrating four interdependent clusters: (1) educational practices developed within the daily routine of health services; (2) the urgent need for pedagogical training of preceptors; (3) the institutional organization of educational programs and SUS policies; and (4) medical and multiprofessional residency programs as the primary mechanism for integrating education, health services, and the community. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Preceptorship proved to be an essential and multidimensional strategy for overcoming the biomedical model. However, its full implementation remains constrained by structural challenges, including excessive clinical workload and insufficient educational literacy. The findings underscore the need for effective public policies to ensure adequate working conditions and permanent health education, thereby strengthening the SUS as a learning health system.
